  • Harmonized total testosterone range: 264–916 ng/dL
  • Median: approximately 531 ng/dL

These values describe a statistical distribution observed in a specific population. They do not automatically represent the ideal testosterone level for every man.

INTERPRETATION IN YOUNGER MEN

  • There is no universally accepted optimal range that applies to every man

1. FREE TESTOSTERONE — A KEY MARKER

Free testosterone accounts for 1% to 3% of total testosterone.
It is the fraction that can directly enter cells.

A “normal” total testosterone level combined with low free testosterone may help explain:

  • fatigue
  • low libido
  • reduced drive
  • stalled progress in the gym
  • fat gain
  • mood instability
